The Denver Broncos, Empower Retirement, and the Denver Municipal Stadium contracted Jones Sports to begin a stadium re-brand in early 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic was about to hit the U.S. The project scope included nine signs, 13,000 square feet of ACM work, and an RGB programmable lighting logo sign.
This rebranding project had a massive scope and a very tight timeline. The contract was awarded in early Spring 2020 with work scheduled for completion in early July. This left just 12 weeks to complete the $2.9 million rebranding project. Complicating matters was the timing. This project coincided with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic which would go on to affect timelines, deliverables, working hours, and worker safety. In consideration of these challenges, the Broncos selected Jones Sports to complete the project, knowing our reputation for excellence and trusting us to deliver. One of the trickiest parts of this project was programming the Empower flag logo. Each of the signs on this project included RGB programmable lighting within the flags to make them appear as if they were waving in the wind.
Our first priority was to create a COVID-safe working environment for this rebranding project. We isolated a hand-picked, experienced team from Jones Sports in order to minimize exposure risk. This allowed us to remain on task and true to our deadlines. This project consisted of nine signs and over 13,000 sq. ft of ACM work. The rebrand included an 87'w x 45'h primary identification sign on the south end of the stadium. Jones Sports designed, engineered, fabricated, and installed the substructure for this massive sign.
The Empower flag logo sign is one-of-a-kind solution, designed by Jones Sports specifically for Empower Field. The flag logo consists of over 4,500 individually-controlled RGB pixels which are programmed to mimic the look of a waving flag at each elevation. Calibrating this animation was an exercise in cooperation. Jones Sports, Monigle Associates, and Empower Field's marketing team worked together via Zoom technology and on-site personnel to calibrate the animation, due to COVID restrictions.
Despite the enormous disruption to the country during that first stage of the pandemic, we completed the event by the end of June as promised, even though there were no events on the schedule due to the global pandemic.
